What happened after the Renaissance?
Clumping all of the great periods of art that came after the Renaissance into one page of a website is not fair to do, but for the purposes of this project it is necessary. After the Renaissance, there was a lot of portraiture that occurred during the 17th and 18th centuries. Artists focused on creating realistic images, this lead to the next movement of Romanticism which lasted from 1790-1845, and instead of just creating an image artists began to elicit emotion in that image. They played with the themes of man vs. man, man vs. himself, and man vs. nature. Once the camera was invented in 1860, artists faced a problem, because you could create an image in a matter of minutes, instead of hours or days. Portraiture was no longer necessary, and artists had to adapt, it was around 1870 that the impressionist movement began with Monet, and then later Van Gogh with the post- impressionist movement. Artists began to move into different realms, Picasso introduced cubism which threw everyone for a loop, and later art became even weirder after 1906 with the introduction of modernism, instead of a clear picture of a person, or a lake. different lines, colors and dots created images that were up to the viewer to interpret. Artist began to question what art was, how far could you take it, which lead to contemporary art. As of right now, art is a melting pot of different styles and ideas, it's full of questioning, and exploration, and that is why it is so beautiful.
